Iraq Tactical: Authorities close central Baghdad’s Jumariyah, Sinak bridges during morning hours of November 19 in anticipation of protests near Green Zone; avoid nonessential travel

Please be advised:

  • Reports indicate that Iraqi authorities have closed central Baghdad’s Jumariyah and Sinak bridges, which lead to the Green Zone, during the morning hours of November 19.  
  • The closures are being implemented due to reports of a potential increase of protest activity in and around the Green Zone as the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) is expected to announce the official finalized results of the parliamentary election held on October 10.   

Recommendations:

Those operating or residing in Baghdad on November 19 are advised to avoid nonessential travel to the vicinity of the outer perimeter of the Green Zone, particularly near the Jumariyah and Sinak bridges, due to the potential for protests and unrest over the coming hours.
