The slated protest comes amid longstanding demands for improved welfare schemes for disabled and elderly people in Israel. A similar protest was recorded on July 25 in Tel Aviv’s Azrieli and LaGuardia interchanges. Disabled people seek to denounce their perceived mistreatment by the government as well as to demand a greater share of government funds for such citizens. FORECAST: Given precedent and the sensitive nature of the demands, the protest is likely to gather participation in the mid to high dozens. Security forces will likely use the advanced announcement of the time and location of the protest to set up barricades around the Azrieli Junction and prevent protesters from blocking the interchange to traffic. This may cause limited scuffles between security forces and protesters. The potential closure of the Azrieli Junction is also liable to cause traffic congestion in other parts of Tel Aviv over the coming hours.
