Americas Tactical (UPDATE): Hurricane Beryl approaches Caribbean, Tropical Storm Chris makes landfall in Mexico, as of July 1; remain cognizant of authorities’ updates

    • Beryl was estimated to be located 240 km southeast of Barbados as of overnight hours (local time) on June 30-July 1. The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a marine warning for the Caribbean, with individual waves likely to be twice the significant wave height, as of July 1.
    • Governments across the Caribbean have issued hurricane warnings including in Barbados, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, alongside a tropical storm watch in Dominica, parts of the Dominican Republic, Martinique, and Haiti, per July 1 reports, due to Hurricane Beryl.

Heavy rainfall is expected in Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Puebla, Queretaro, San Luis Potosi, Tamaulipas, and Veracruz, as well as strong rains in Campeche, Chiapas, Nuevo Leon and Tabasco and the Yucatan Peninsula on July 1. Strong winds can be expected across parts of Tabasco, Tamaulipas, and Veracruz on July 1. Per June 30 reports, multiple motorways across northern Veracruz have been impacted due to weather-related damage, including flooding and landslides. Authorities have suspended classes at educational institutions across 27 municipalities in Veracruz on July 1.
