Argentina Tactical (UPDATE): Women’s Day protest march rescheduled in Rosario, Santa Fe, slated to be held from 13:00 (local time) on March 16; allot for disruptions

Current Situation

  • In Rosario, Santa Fe, the protest march commemorating Women’s Day, annually held on March 8 by various feminist organizations and activists, was rescheduled and is now slated to be held on March 16.
  • The protest march will begin at 13:00 (local time) at Plaza San Martin, and protestors will march along Calles Dorrego, San Luis, Buenos Aires, and Cordoba, and will end at Monumento Nacional a la Bandera at around 14:00.
  • Subsequently, several urban transport lines, particularly public buses have announced detours along multiple lines. Exact details regarding the detours and timings can be found here (in Spanish).

Assessments & Forecast

  1. Based on precedent and social media estimates, the protest is liable to witness a turnout ranging from the high dozens to mid-hundreds, and will likely transpire largely peacefully.
  2. However, considering the large expected turnout, bolstered security is likely to be implemented at the protest locations, as well as along the protest march route to monitor proceedings, and to divert traffic.
  3. Consequently, significant disruptions to pedestrian and vehicular travel can be expected near the protest locations and along the protest march route during the afternoon hours onwards. Moreover, additional road closures and diversions can also be anticipated.
  4. Furthermore, public transportation en route to the protest locations will likely be overcrowded during the slated hours. Heavy congestion on routes towards the protest locations is expected.
