Bangladesh Tactical (UPDATE): AL slated to stage protests at multiple locations in Dhaka on February 17; avoid all rallies
Please be advised:
- Members of the ruling Awami League (AL) are slated to stage protest rallies at multiple locations in Dhaka on February 17 to denounce the “anarchy” of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
- AL’s north city unit will hold a protest rally outside Alhaj Mockbul Hossain University College in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur at 15:00 (local time) on the day. Meanwhile, AL’s youth wing, the Jubo League, will stage a protest rally near AL’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue.
- AL is also slated to stage a rally outside Ananda Cinema Hall in Farmgate at 16:00 on the day.
- The protests come amid BNP’s planned rallies in multiple cities, including Chittagong and Dhaka, on February 17-18, calling for the implementation of the BNP’s 10-point demand, including the formation of a neutral caretaker government ahead of the slated 2024 general election.
Recommendations:
Those operating or residing in Dhaka on February 17 are advised to avoid all political rallies given the slated AL, BNP demonstrations and the associated risk of unrest.
