Hong Kong Tactical: Traffic advisory issued for marathon event in Hong Kong from 23:30 (local time) on January 17 to 14:00 on January 18; allot for disruptions

Current Situation:

  • The Transport Department (TD) issued a traffic advisory for the Hong Kong Marathon 2026 from 23:30 (local time) on January 17 to 14:00 on January 18.  
  • The Full Marathon starts at 06:00 from Nathan Road in the Tsim Sha Tsui area and goes through major roads in Kowloon and Hong Kong Island before ending at Victoria Park on January 18.  
  • The route includes a section of Nathan Road extending from Granville Road to Argyle Street, Lin Cheung Road, West Kowloon Highway, Stonecutters Bridge, Nam Wan Tunnel, Ting Kau Bridge, Cheung Tsing Tunnel, Tsing Kwai Highway, the Western Harbour Crossing (WHC), Connaught Road West flyover, Lung Wo Road, Expo Drive, Hung Hing Road, Lockhart Road, Percival Street, Hennessy Road, Yee Wo Street, Sugar Street, and finish at Victoria Park. 
  • Nathan Road will be closed in both directions between Salisbury Road and Gascoigne Road. The northbound carriageway between Gascoigne Road and Argyle Street will also be closed, along with other sections in the Yau Tsim Mong area. 
  • The westbound carriageway of Argyle Street between Nathan Road and Tong Mi Road will remain closed for traffic.   
  • Additionally, the Hong Kong-bound tube of the WHC will be temporarily closed from 12:45 until about 13:15 on January 17, subject to race progress. The Kowloon-bound tube will remain open to normal traffic during the marathon period.  
  • Island Eastern Corridor (IEC), between Victoria Park Road and Shau Kei Wan, will be closed from 01:15 on January 17 in phases.  
  • Additionally, traffic from New Territories West to the Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) will be diverted from the Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Tunnel on the day.  
  • Heavy traffic congestion is anticipated in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and New Territories on January 17-18, as over 74,000 runners have registered for the marathon event.

Those operating or residing in Hong Kong on January 17-18 are advised to allot for travel disruptions in the aforementioned locations due to the slated traffic restrictions.
