Indonesia Tactical: Activists to protest outside ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta at 13:00 (local time) on April 24; maintain vigilance

Please be advised:

  • Activists are slated to protest at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Secretariat in South Jakarta at 13:00 (local time) on April 24 in solidarity with the anti-coup protesters in Myanmar.
  • Authorities have reportedly deployed 4,382 security personnel across Jakarta as part of heightened security measures for the ASEAN summit, which is slated to begin from the afternoon hours on April 24.
  • Hotels, designated travel routes, and arrival terminals will also be inspected as part of bolstered security. 
  • Leaders of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam, in addition to the Myanmar military (Tatmadaw) chief and foreign ministers of the Philippines and Thailand, will attend the summit to discuss the domestic crisis in Myanmar.
