• According to reports, Jose Luis Gil, a former public servant in the Peruvian Ministry of Interior has called for an anti-corruption protest under the banner “Por la paz y la unidad” (For Peace and Unity) at Campo de Marte in Lima at 15:00 (local time) on May 25.  
• The protest is being organized to denounce corruption by public officials, including former Attorney General Patricia Benavides amid ongoing investigations (Operation Valquiria V) into her suspected involvement in criminal activity during her tenure as Attorney General. This follows the National Board of Justice dismissing Benavides for interfering in an investigation involving her sister, Judge Enma Benavides, and replacing the prosecutor handling the case on May 22.  
• The latest call for protest follows a similar ad-hoc protest denouncing Benavides and the Congress on December 2 and November 27, 2023.

1. Based on the social media estimates, the protest is expected to witness a turnout in the mid to high hundreds.  
2. Despite the elevated sentiments over the issue, the protest is anticipated to transpire largely peacefully without incidents of unrest, given precedent of the December 2 protests. 
3. Regardless, a bolstered security presence can be expected in the vicinity of the protest location to monitor the proceedings. In addition, police are likely to conduct preemptive searches and seizures to prevent unrest, with police similarly seizing wooden shields and helmets among other gear from protestors in December. 
4. Significant disruptions to pedestrian and vehicular traffic can be expected in the vicinity of Campo de Marte during the afternoon hours on May 25 due to ad-hoc road closures.
