Philippines Tactical: Activists to hold bicycle rally from Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati City, Metro Manila at 17:00 (local time) on July 14; allot for disruptions

Please be advised:

  • Activists of the “Make it Safer Movement” (MISMO) announced a bicycle rally in Makati City, Metro Manila at 17:00 (local time) on July 14. The ride will start at the Ayala Triangle Gardens and end at the Sultan Kudarat Monument. 
  • The rally will be held to denounce a property developer’s alleged failure to adequately provide safety to commuters and cyclists in Makati Central Business District (CBD).   
  • On February 12, at least 200 activists of the MISMO held a bicycle rally over the issue on Ayala Avenue in Makati City, Metro Manila.  

Assessments:

The turnout in the slated rally will likely reach the high dozens to low hundreds, based on participation reported on February 12 and considering the resonance of the issue among locals. While the gathering is liable to transpire peacefully, the authorities will bolster security measures along the protest route as a standard security protocol to monitor the crowd movement. Pedestrian and vehicular traffic disruptions are likely along the rally route due to the expected turnout and related security measures on the day.

Those operating or residing in Makati City in Metro Manila on July 14 are advised to allot for travel disruptions in the vicinity of the aforementioned locations due to the slated rally.
