South Korea Tactical: Traffic advisory issued for marathon event in Seoul on March 16; allot for disruptions

Current Situation:

  • The Seoul Metropolitan Government issued a traffic advisory ahead of the 2025 Seoul Marathon, set to take place in Seoul on March 16.
  • The event is scheduled to commence at Gwanghwamun Square in Sejong-daero and conclude at Jamsil Sports Complex in Songpa-gu, Seoul from 5:30 -13:30 (local time) on March 16.  
  • The event will feature 40,000 participants from 66 countries.  
  • A large deployment of safety personnel is slated to be positioned at starting points and throughout the course on the day. 
  • As per the advisory, vehicular traffic will be diverted in phases through key locations, including Namdaemun Gate, Euljiro, Jongno, Sinseol-dong, Gunja Station, Children’s Grand Park, Seoul Forest, Jamsil Bridge, Jamsil Station and Seoul Sports Complex on the day. 
  • Similar restrictions will be enforced for a 10-km race from Seoul Sports Complex to Garak Market Station in Seoul on March 16. 
  • Traffic diversions will be in place across major roads along the marathon route, with some roads expected to remain closed until the event concludes.  
  • Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and expect significant delays.
