  • In Venezuela, a protest march will be held in Caracas from Plaza Morelos to Plaza Candelaria at 09:00.

Assessments & Forecast

  1. Based on the social media traction of the protest call and given that the protests have been organized to coincide with the ‘Land Day’, the upcoming demonstrations are expected to witness higher attendance than usual, albeit varying turnouts ranging in the low hundreds-to-mid thousands at each location. The protests in New York City, Washington DC, Toronto, and Mexico City are expected to draw the highest attendance between the low-to-mid thousands.
  2. Given heightened sentiments over the conflict, especially after the USA abstained from vetoing a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza on March 25, ad-hoc counter-protests by pro-Israel activists witnessing a turnout in the high dozens-to-low hundreds can also be anticipated in the vicinity of the slated pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
  3. Judging by precedent, the slated demonstrations in Chile, Mexico, and Venezuela are expected to transpire peacefully. Conversely, there is credible potential for an escalation into localized unrest, manifesting as roadblocks and scuffles between protesters, potential counter-protesters, and security personnel in Canada and the USA. This is due to the heightened sentiments and polarizing rhetoric over the issue, particularly following Washington’s UNSC abstention and the recent Israeli military operation in Rafah.
  4. Given the significance of the day, the consequent high attendance, and the potential for protests escalating into localized unrest, bolstered security measures are expected near all protest sites to monitor proceedings and divert traffic. Should protests escalate into localized unrest, authorities are anticipated to conduct mass arrests.
  5. Meanwhile, lone-wolf security incidents in the form of targeted or indiscriminate stabbings, shootings, and arson against Muslim or Jewish individuals at their residences, places of worship, commercial areas, and protest locations also remain possible in Canada and the USA.
  6. In addition, significant disruptions to pedestrian and vehicular traffic can be anticipated in the vicinity of the aforementioned protest locations during the slated timings.

Recommendations

  1. Those operating or residing in the aforementioned cities in Canada, Chile, Mexico, the USA, and Venezuela on March 30 are advised to maintain heightened vigilance in the vicinity of planned and spontaneous pro-Palestinian protests due to the potential for localized unrest.
  2. Allot for traffic disruptions in the vicinity of all protest locations.
  3. Maintain heightened vigilance for potential security incidents near Israeli and US embassies, synagogues, mosques, and other Jewish entities regionwide.
