  • Details on the planned demonstrations are as follows:
    • In Barranquilla, a protest is scheduled to start at Estacion Joe Arroyo on Calle 74 and Carrera 46 at 10:00 (local time).
    • In Bogota, a protest march is slated from Parque Nacional to Plaza de Bolivar, in front of the Palacio de Justicia at 10:00.
    • In Cali, a protest march will be held at 10:00 from Parque de las Banderas to Plazoleta Jairo Varela.

  • Additional protests will be held in Armenia, Bucaramanga, Cartagena, Manizales, Neiva, Santa Marta, Sincelejo, Tunja, and Villavicencio on the same day.

Assessments & Forecast

  1. Based on similar protests against Petro’s reforms, including a February 8 protest by workers’ unions, the slated demonstrations are likely to witness turnouts in the mid-to-high hundreds, with a higher attendance expected in Bogota, in the mid-to-high thousands.
  2. Protests in Armenia, Bucaramanga, Cartagena, Manizales, Neiva, Santa Marta, Sincelejo, Tunja, and Villavicencio will likely witness turnouts ranging from the high dozens-to-low hundreds.
  3. Based on precedent, the protests are expected to transpire largely peacefully, without any instances of unrest. Regardless, authorities are expected to bolster security in the vicinity of the aforementioned protest locations, especially near the Plaza de Bolivar in Bogota, to monitor proceedings and regulate traffic.
  4. Additionally, significant disruptions to pedestrian and vehicular traffic can be expected in the vicinity of all protest locations during the slated timings.

Recommendations

Those operating or residing in the aforementioned cities in Colombia on March 6 are advised to allot for disruptions to travel in the vicinity of the protest locations.
